Abbaye d’Orval – Orval Trappist Ale 6.2%
Orval is a dark golden ale, with an orange marmalade aroma. It is a green hop and bitter orange tasting ale, with woody and green leaf notes and a light sharp-sour background.
Orval is brewed at the Abbey d’Orval in Belgium. It is fermented and dry hopped, then bottle conditioned with a specific special yeast – Brettanomyces.
The brewery was founded within the Abbey in1931, to finance the extensive refurbishment of the abbey. The Orval Ale recipe was invented by Pappenheimer, a lay worker and master brewer from Bavaria, employed by the monks. It carries the official destination of “Authentic Trappist Product” and is a particularly famous trappist ale.
